IF you fancy a strudel slapping bit of innuendo and some sweet acting, the Great British Bake Off Musical at the Everyman really hits the spot.
Mark Goucher, producer and chief executive of the Everyman, is the man behind this sumptuous production and he has really hit the sweet spot with this show.
It is based on the globally popular television show The Great British Bake Off which has come to be a national treasure in British broadcasting.
For fans of the TV show this musical production has everything you could wish for.
There are the brilliant judges - Phil Hollinghurst, played brilliantly by John Owen-Jones and Pam Lee, played equally brilliantly by Rosemary Ashe. Both actors have taken bits of Mr Blue Eyes himself Paul Hollywood and the irrepresible Prue Leith whose unintentional innuendoes brought the house down.
Mixing lovely melodic songs and fabulous singing voices the cast produced a charming and heart warming show which went down a storm with the Cheltenham audience.
It is a silly but professional show which had the audience totally enthralled by the action and believing they were watching an actual episode of the TV show.
Creators of the show have managed to get all the archetypical bakers in the show.
There is Gemma, played by Charlotte Wakefield as the struggling girl from Blackpool and Claire Moore who was fabulous as the older baker Babs whose side story with her penchant for Phil Hollinghurst was a highlight of the show with some brilliant performances from both players.
Newly widowed dad Ben played by Damian Humbley was strong in the role and brought the audience onside with his personal story.
You also had the vegan baker, the pretty achiever, the technical engineer and the Italian woman who all had the audience in the palm of their hands.
Good things come to those who bake!
Great British Bake Off The Musical is at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham until Saturday August 6. Visit everymantheatre.org.uk for more information.
