HUNDREDS of people have been attending local proclamations of King Charles III at ceremonies in Dursley and Wotton-under-Edge as well as across the South Gloucestershire area.
The proclamation of the new Sovereign is a centuries old tradition.
The ceremony does not create a new King - it is an opportunity for members of the public and civil leaders to reflect and to lay floral tributes.
At St James's Palace in London, the new monarch was officially recognised by the Accession Council on Saturday, September 10.
Wotton-under-Edge
Hundreds of people gathered outside St. Mary's Church in Wotton-under Edge on Sunday, September 11 to witness the historical process.
The Mace Bearer led the procession to the church and beloved Wotton town crier, George Carpenter introduced the proceedings
The local proclamation was read out by Mayor Cllr Martin Tucker.
Members of Wotton silver band played the national anthem and afterwards attendees were encouraged to sign a book of condolence inside St. Mary's Church.
Andrea Durn Wotton-under-Edge Town Council clerk said: "It was a fabulous historic event with over 200 people attending.
"All credit to the people of Wotton for rallying round to make the Queen and King proud."
People who wish to lay floral tributes are encouraged to do so on the church grounds.
After the funeral flowers will be collected and composted to fertilise a tree which will be planted in memory of Queen Elizabeth II at a suitable location in Wotton.
Dursley
A huge crowd also gathered in Dursley outside the market place in Parsonage Street.
The local proclamation was read out by Mayor Cllr Symon Ackroyd, marking the beginning of King Charles III's reign. He then also led the national anthem.
Representatives from the council were also in attendance along with members of the public, members of Dursley Police and Dursley and Cam Royal British Legion.
People who wish lay floral tributes are encouraged to do so on the St James Church grounds.
The local proclamation which was read in Dursley and Wotton reads: “Whereas it has pleased almighty God to call to his mercy our late Sovereign lady Queen Elizabeth II of blessed and glorious memory, by whose decease the Crown of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is solely and rightfully come to the Prince Charles Philip Arthur George.
