A MECHANIC who started out as an apprentice has worked his way up to owning a garage in Berkeley.
Green Lane Garage which has been on Marybrook Street for the past ten years has now reopened with a new owner.
Patrick Lines, 31, has renamed the branch Berkeley Garage and says he said he feels ‘lucky’ to be the new owner.
It’s a significant milestone as he started his career with the company over 15 years ago.
He said: “It just doesn’t feel real at all.
“Growing up I’ve just always loved cars and I did racing when I was younger.
“I worked as a Saturday boy and worked there during my apprenticeship.
“I’m so lucky to have been given the opportunity to take over the Berkeley branch.”
“So far it’s been going pretty well."
Patrick is originally from Thornbury and went to Castle School.
A new dad, he lives in Newport with his partner Hannah and two-year-old daughter Madelyn.
“My dad was also a mechanic and I learnt a lot from him.
“I’m hoping he can come down soon and put in a few shifts as well.
“I want to carry on my family’s mechanic history.
“It would be amazing if my daughter one day became a mechanic.
“I want the garage to be more efficient and give back customers' cars quicker and be more flexible like helping people out on Sundays.
“I also want to be able to give our staff more opportunities to take on more."
In the next few months, Patrick has plans to update and modernise the garage with a new MOT bay.
He also wants to expand into Oldbury on Severn through a partnership to offer more flexible services for customers.
The Berkeley Garage is located near the Coop and the high street.
Their services include MOTs, car checks, oil and break checks, breakdown services, tyre repair and change and battery change.
They have plans to host a community open day soon at the garage with vintage and sport cars on display with local business stalls, a tombola and a bouncy castle.
