POLICE have launched an appeal after the body of a man was found in the Bristol harbour.

The body of 34-year-old Abdul Rahman Jamal Saleh Suleiman was found in the harbour off Welsh Back in Bristol on Wednesday, August 31, but it’s believed he entered the water four days earlier.

Today, an inquest has been opened into his death and officers are keen to speak with witnesses who were in the Welsh Back area of Bristol at around 9pm on Saturday August,27 who may have seen Mr Suleiman enter the water.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "Officers were able to identify Mr Suleiman’s next of kin with the support of the Libyan embassy, and they have been updated about his death.

"Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

"His death is being treated as unexplained, but there are no suspicious circumstances."

An inquest into his death has been opened today at Avon Coroners Court and has been adjourned to Wednesday 30 November.
