A YATE Jiu-jitsu school owner has won the Brazilian British title for the sixth year and credited legendary film director Guy Richie for his guidance during training.

Portuguese-born Antonio Bustorff who runs two Gracie barra schools including one in Yate won the title for the sixth time and said the win makes him one of the very few to claim a British title at every belt from white to black.

Antonio, who also acts said he was ‘lucky’ to train with movie director Guy Ritchie who is a black belt in jiu jitsu after practising the martial art for over 25 years.

He said: “I learned a lot being on the mats with Guy, leading up to my last two British titles Guy was my main sparring partner, so the victory it’s his too. We study concepts together and then we “trial” them (we fight), this process had a massive input and improvement in my fight strategy.”

Antonio has starred in a number of movies, most recently alongside Jason Statham in Ritchie’s latest film,  Operation Fortune – Ruse de Guerre, and hopes to become a movie star as well as winning World Titles in Jiu Jitsu

He added: “I want everyone to know the benefits of Jiu Jitsu, it has absolutely changed my life.

“I had severe issues with addiction, depression and other “demons”, through jiu jitsu I not only faced them, I defeated them.

“The influence of stars like Tom Hardy and Russell Brand start making everyone aware of the benefits of this martial art, not only the physical health benefits, also the astonishing benefits for mental health.

“And I hope to continue this.”
