THE Royal British Legion in Thornbury unveiled a bench following their Remembrance day commemorations to further honour members and veterans of the armed forces. 

The group decided in October 2021 to install the bench in the centre of the town as a way o honouring members of the armed forces.

They unveiled the new seating on Remembrance Sunday following a commemorative service.

Larry Cauchi, chairman of the Thornbury and District branch of the Royal British Legion, said: "We as a branch decided that we would like to have something in the centre of town to honour our Armed Forces veterans. 

"We decided on a bench where people could rest and reflect and set out to raise the required funds.

"In a very short time thanks to the generosity of families, groups and business we had raised the required amount. 

"On behalf of Thornbury and District Royal British Legion i would like to personally thank: Ed & Anne Hervey, the family of Edwin Richards, The lions club, the Rotary Club, Bonds Estate Agents and Renishaw Engineering company for their donations. 

"I must also pass a big thank you to St Mary Centre manager AC for all of his help in taking delivery and storing the bench and to Thornbury Town Council for providing the site and support in its future care and maintenance."

The Mayor of Thornbury, Air Vice Marshall Simon Ellard, Ed and Anne Hervey, the Rotary club of Thornbury, the Lions club of Thornbury members of the Royal British Legion town councillors, cadet forces and members of the public were invited to the unveiling.
