POLICE are out in force across Gloucestershire checking on motorists' speeds.

Officers will be stationed in a variety of locations with mobile speed cameras at various times.

However, be aware as officers will also be at other locations not listed.

January priority site locations 

The expectation is that each of the following locations will be visited at least once per week during the month of January:

  • A4173 near St Peters School - 30mph
  • Old Station Way, Coleford - 30 mph
  • Stoke Road, Stoke Orchard - 30 mph
  • Bath Road, Frocester - 30mph
  • A417 Nettleton Bottom - 40 mph

December priority site detections

Last month saw hundreds of motorists break speed limits across the county. 

Gloucestershire County Council have revealed how many motorists were caught speeding last month at priority site detection points. 

  • Heron Way - 30mph - 13 motorists were caught exceeding the speed limit - while there were 4 other offences reported
  • A417 Gloucester Road Course  - 30mph -  100 motorists were caught exceeding the speed limit - while there were 6 other offences reported         
  • M5 Northbound Stoke Orchard (in Road Works) - 50mph - 753 motorists were caught exceeding the speed limit. There were no other offences reported                  
  • A4019 Uckington - 50mph - 7 motorists were caught exceeding the speed limit - while there was one other offence reported 
  • A417 Burford Road - 70mph. No motorists were caught exceeding the speed limit.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire County Council said: “The Mobile Camera Enforcement Unit is committed to reducing risks to road users caused by vehicles travelling at excessive speeds. 

“The mobile speed detection vans operate at over 80 sites across the county and prioritise site activity by examining speed and accident data including intelligence received from communities.

“In an effort to reduce speeding in areas across the county, the priority sites will be advertised each month. 

“Visits to the other sites will continue but emphasis will be placed on the advertised locations.”
