MP Luke Hall has continued his campaign to raise funds for the new £13m health care centre in Thornbury.
Recently the Yate and Thornbury MP met with the Minister for Health Lord Markham to push for government funding needed to rebuild Thornbury Health Centre.
The £13.3 million bid - which is currently under consideration - seeks to enhance local health services and relieve pressure at Southmead Hospital and Bristol Royal Infirmary.
Mr Hall told the health minister that “the community needs this redevelopment more than ever before.”
Plans for the site could include a base for GP surgeries, improved mental health support, and assistance for older people receiving care at home.
People living in Thornbury and Alveston would be able to access the care they need closer to home, rather than travelling to Bristol.
However, there have been several unsuccessful attempts to upgrade the facilities over the past 30 years.
The campaign reached a new milestone last year when South Gloucestershire Council invested £3.4 million to buy the land of the former Thornbury Hospital site from the North Bristol NHS Trust.
“Redeveloping Thornbury Health Centre is a key part of our positive plan for health,” Mr Hall said.
“I have made the case to the minister that our community needs this redevelopment more than ever before.
“I look forward to hearing the outcome of our bid.”
The hospital closed to patients in December 2019, as new facilities were set up at the St Mary's Centre, known as Thornbury Outpatient Clinic.
Previously the 1920s hospital building had been declared "not fit for purpose" by the NBT and as services wound down there, it had been blighted by anti-social behaviour.
Lord Markham as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Health and Social Care, he is responsible for NHS capital, land and estates, including the new hospital programme.
If the current local bid is successful, the project will progress to the next stage, including a masterplan and Outline Business Case, with physical work set to take place in 2025.
A decision on the Thornbury Health Centre bid is expected in the coming months.
