A GROUP of travellers have left a council-owned playing field after they set up camp last week.

The unauthorised encampment - which arrived last weekend - have now left the Jubilee Playing Fields in Cam.

A spokesperson for Cam Parish Council said in a statement yesterday evening (February 15) that vehicles had left following a “successful challenge”.

“The unauthorised vehicles at the Jubilee Field have left the site following a successful challenge,” a parish spokesperson said.

“We arranged for a clean up which was completed very quickly.  We are aware of some fly tipping in Everside Lane, this has been reported for collection.

“Thank you for your patience with this matter.”

A spokesperson for Cam Parish Council previously said they “had the situation in hand” and were doing “everything they can”.

Gloucestershire police said last week they were establishing a presence in the area to "reassure" residents.

In July last year, a dozen caravans plus several vehicles and tents were set up by a travelling group on the same playing fields.
