A MIX of snow and sleet could be coming to Gloucestershire in the coming days as temperatures are expected to drop. 

Heading into next week, the BBC Weather forecast shows it will turn colder as a northerly airflow develops.

It predicts that next Wednesday and Thursday (March 8 and 9) the county will be hit with a mix of sleet showers and snow.

For most parts it is likely to fall as sleet throughout the day on both days.

However parts of the county, such as Stroud could see snow falling for around three hours. 

On Wednesday morning, the forecast said the town could expect snow between 9am and midday in a week's time, with sleet throughout the afternoon.

Patches of snow are also expected on Thursday morning. 

Meanwhile sleet is expected in other parts of the county in Cirencester and Dursley. 

The long-range forecast for the UK from the Met office, coverage March 7 to March 16, said: “This period is expected to be characterised by winds from the north bringing cold conditions to most areas with widespread frost and ice. 

“This will most likely result in wintry showers, these turning to more organised bands of snow at times in the east. 

“Under this regime, some areas are likely to remain drier with some sunshine, the best of this across inland areas and in the south and west of the UK. 

“During the later part of the period confidence decreases significantly, however there is a risk of some milder and wetter weather pushing into the south from the Atlantic at times, which could bring periods of snow as they push north. 

“Temperatures overall will be below average but may gradually trend up through the period.”
