A SHOP-OWNER who has run a popular gift shop in Dursley for nearly two decades has named her successor.
Gift shop, Just to Say, has been a fixture in Dursley high street for 19 years, having first opened its doors in 2004.
The shop sells a range of items, from cards for all occasions to giftware, teddy bears and party gear.
Former owner Sue Pinnell - who took over the business in 2007 - has told the Gazette that she has found a new owner to take over the much-loved shop.
It comes after she previously stated that the shop would close permanently if a new owner was not found.
“I have been overwhelmed by the kind words, cards and gifts that I have received for my retirement,” she said.
“Having a final ‘send off’ by the traders of Dursley with beautiful flowers, a vase, a lovely engraved gin glass and two special bottles of gin.
“I have enjoyed my time as a trader in Dursley, seeing many ups and downs over the years, but thankfully the people of the town have carried on supporting the shop over these times.
“I would like to say thank you to everyone, especially to my loyal staff who have helped me make the business it is today.
“Helen Williams, who is re-opening the shop on April 17 as Helen's Wishes, will be a new face but I am sure she will soon be accepted as part of the town. I wish her many happy, enjoyable prosperous years trading in Dursley.
“Thank you again.”
New owner Helen Williams - who is from Dursley - said in a statement that she is leaving behind a career in HR to take over the shop which will be renamed Helen's Wishes.
"I know for sure that Sue will be dearly missed by the Dursley community but, I would like to wish her a very happy, healthy and well-deserved retirement," she said.
"I will do my utmost to continue running a fantastic business and to keep that community spirit alive for all my customers.
"I will take ownership from April 1st. There will be a couple of weeks closure time whilst I spend some time familiarising myself with the stock and shop.
"After which I will be throwing open the doors to welcome you all into Helen’s Wishes.
"I am very much looking forward to getting to know you all, I like to have a natter so when I am open, please do come in and say hello!
"I am leaving a career in HR, to embark on this new adventure. The thought of running my own business, in a town I love, where I can talk to great people and be part of a community was an opportunity, I just could not let pass me by.
"I am very excited to get started, but for now there is lots of planning and preparation being done, so please watch this space for more progress updates."
