CYCLISTS have told of their sadness at the closure of a bike shop, which has traded in Wotton high street for almost three years.
KOM Cycling, an independent shop on Long Street which is set to close later this month, sells bikes, parts and accessories as well as servicing, repairs and workshops.
Owner Tristan said in a statement the closure was a ’difficult decision’.
“Unfortunately K.O.M will soon be closing permanently,” he said.
“I'd like to thank all of you so much for your support and positivity over the past two and a half years.
“It's been a difficult decision, but unfortunately it has become unsustainable financially and in terms of my workload and work/life balance.
“Workshop bookings will be accepted until Saturday, April 22, at which point my efforts will be focused on clearing the shop.
“Most of the parts, accessories and bikes currently in stock in the shop are now on sale and I've also started listing things on an eBay shop, so feel free to have a browse using the following link, or pop into the shop and grab some bargains.
“More eBay listings to come but there's loads more in the shop which all needs to go.
“If anyone's looking to employ a full-time bike mechanic or wheel builder, or would like to invest in a bike shop or lots of stock, then please get in touch!
“Thanks again to all of my customers, old and new. It's been a pleasure keeping you all on two wheels!”
Customers have been reacting to the sad news on social media.
Wotton Town Council clerk Andrea Durn said: “Very sorry to hear this Tristan, KOM was my first choice for all things cycling.
“A very tough decision for you. Thank you for all you have done for Wotton and adding variety and independence in the town. I wish you all good luck for the next chapter.”
Another comment reads: “That’s a real shame, you’ve kept my bike going, not sure what I’m going to do without you looking after me. Wishing you all the best in your new venture.”
Another says: “That’s such a shame Tristan - you filled a gap in the market in Wotton and I’m very grateful for all the advice and support you’ve given me. Your time will come - stay positive.”
