WICKWAR was recently given a royal seal of approval by Princess Anne when she visited the village earlier this month. 

The Princess Royal visited Wickwar Town Hall on Tuesday, April 4 to officially mark the refurbishment and renovation of the historic 17th century village clock. 

The blue and gold clock was restored as a tribute to the Queen as part of the village’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. 

While in the village, Princess Anne also attended an afternoon tea party where she met 24 volunteers who lead local clubs and societies in Wickwar. 

This included representatives from the church, the youth club, the football club, the village social club, local runners and many others. 

Parish Councillor Gareth Fielding said: "It was a great honour for us to host the Princess Royal for an afternoon. 

“The Parish Council was really pleased to be able to invite so many of our local volunteers as a thank you for everything they do for our village.

Parish Councillor Angie Carroll said: “A particular highlight was that despite her very busy schedule, HRH detoured to talk with some of the local scouts and brownies who had formed a guard of honour outside the Town Hall. 

“On what became something of a mini Royal walkabout, she received a beautiful posy of spring flowers from pupils at Alexander Hosea Primary. 

“A very special thank you to our parish clerk, Sarah Quick who organised everyone and kept things running smoothly on the day.”
