FOUR men have been charged with stealing alcohol worth more than £6,500 from Sainsbury's near Stroud.

It is alleged the group - Valeriu Cobzarencu, aged 30, Geani Giurea aged 31, Iuliah Marinica aged 28 and Andrei Stefan aged 34 - stole booze worth £6591.50.

This reportedly occurred in a one month period between July 11 and August 11 last year at the store in Dudbridge.

It is also alleged that the group also attempted to steal a quantity of alcohol worth £3587.25 between July 20 and 26 from the same store.

This was contrary to the Theft Act 1968 and Criminal Attempts Act 1981.

Cobzarencu also faces a separate charge for allegedly using a high powered magnet to de-tag the items during a theft on July 26.
