AN appeal has been launched to help save the eyesight of a rescued ‘extremely unwell’ cat who has been named Prince Louis in honour of the Coronation.

It is believed Louis, aged four, had been surviving out as a stray for some time before arriving at the Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home, which is based in Cambridge near Dursley.

The Maine Coon cat was described by CDCH staff as arriving at the facility in an 'awful state' and who is 'extremely unwell'.

He came to the centre with surface wounds from repeated cat fighting, dirt and grime embedded in his matted coat, pus in his eyes, nasal discharge, wheezy breathing, and a heart murmur.

Louis has been diagnosed with Entropion in both eyes, a 'extremely painful' condition where the eyelid is turned inwards against the eyeball.

Alongside neutering, vaccinations, and a further de-matt, Louis requires urgent corrective surgery on his eyes. An appeal has now been launched by CDCH.

A spokesperson said: “We have taken in an extremely unwell Tom cat.

“Louis’s medical bills have left us no option but to put out this emergency fundraising appeal in the hope that you can help us raise enough money to cover the costs of Louis’s extensive veterinary treatment.

“With your help, Louis can be given the gift of keeping his sight and setting him on the road to recovery.

CDCH Community fundraiser Sam Herminan said: "With the coronation fast approaching, the team felt inspired to choose a royal name!

"Our Prince Louis is of similar age to Prince Louis of Cambridge and we are also based in Cambridge, Gloucestershire.

"The fact that he is a Maine coon made the decision easy and Prince Louis he became."

The spokesperson added: "Louis has been given a safe, warm place to rest as well as receiving emergency veterinary treatment at both Vale Vets and here at the Centre from our Vet Mo, this treatment has already come at a significant cost to the centre.

“We are asking for your support to help Louis, not only with his upcoming surgery and ongoing medical bills but also to recoup some of the expenses incurred during his initial investigations.

“If you are able to make a donation to help Louis please donate, no donation is too small, and we value all your support.”
