A BUSINESS OWNER has reacted to plans to renovate a petrol station site in Cam, which could result in the demolition of his shop.

Rhys Woods, owner of auto repair shop RS Autotechnik based in Millwood Garage, has assured customers that they “aren’t going anywhere”.

The site which is located along the A4135 has been a fixture in Draycott for decades and could be transformed under a new proposed scheme.

The planning application - which was submitted on April 20 - includes plans for a new drive-through as well as the demolition of Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home furniture shop and RS Autotechnik.

But Mr Woods has now told the Gazette that a second planning application will eventually be submitted for the construction of a new purpose-built workshop for RS Autotechnik.

“Founded in 2017 and now with five members of staff, we look forward to the expansion into bespoke premises that will provide outstanding modern facilities,” he said.

“We’re currently working with our landlords - Millwood Motor Company - who will be submitting another planning application in due course.”

Other plans in the Millwood Garage application include building a much-bigger sales building and revamping the existing forecourt.

In addition, a new car park with 56 spaces would be created - three for disabled users and includes five EV charging points.

In council documents, it has been suggested that the drive-through would be run by either a coffee/ drink or a fast-food takeaway company.

Millwood director Paul Griffith previously said their plans will ‘future proof’ the business.

A planning document reads: “The end-user of the proposed drive-through unit is not known; it could potentially be occupied by a fast-food or coffee shop operator.

“The site has a prominent location on the road network, benefitting from being on one of the main strategic routes in/ out of Cam and Dursley.

“It is understood that proposals for the development site are to demolish the existing car service and repair centre, car wash, charity furniture shop and construct a new car wash with associated jet wash bays."

Since it was first established by John Hedges in the 1960s when it was still known as Cam Motors, the family-run business has been a fixture in Draycott for decades.
