PLANS have been submitted to develop an old garden centre into a new site with a warehouse and dance studio near Dursley.

An application has been submitted to transform the old Sunnyside Garden Centre along the A38 at Gossington and create nearly 30 jobs.

Proposals submitted to Stroud District Council include building three separate buildings - a warehouse, a large office space with a canteen and showroom plus a dance studio.

If approved, it is believed that 28 new full-time jobs would be created.

In a supporting document the applicant states that the proposed dance centre would be a 'beacon of excellence' which would put the area 'on the map' for dance training.

The application states that the dance centre would be over two floors with four dance studios, five changing rooms, plus a lobby reception area, a kitchen and toilets.

The warehouse would be single storey and include toilets and a small office.

Meanwhile, the second building over two floors would include a canteen with a service area, a kitchen, toilets, a delivery area, a staff room, various separate offices, a showroom space, conference rooms, and a shared open office space.

It is believed that the warehouse and showroom will be used by Domli, an online business which sells modern wooden furniture.

In addition, proposals include improving existing site access, creating a large attenuation pond and adding in lifts into two of the buildings.

The plan also includes creating six new cycle spaces as well as adding 44 parking spaces, adding 24 new spaces to the site.

A council document reads: "The site has subsequently been purchased by the applicant who intends to use the site for his family business.

"Based on his previous operations it is anticipated that the business will employ up to 25 new employees on site.

"The applicant's wife is a very well-known and highly regarded dance teacher who has taught throughout the area for 35 years.

"The school specialises in ballet but covers many other genres of dance from tap, jazz, contemporary to urban/ street.

"Currently the area lacks purpose-built dance studios that meet the current and exacting standards required to teach advanced and high-performing dance students.

"The application proposes a separate purpose-built dance studio that will incorporate all the modern facilities to meet modern standards.

"The applicant has links with the Royal Academy of Dance who are aware of this proposal who have expressed interest in accrediting the studios once constructed."

A supporting document reads: "We intend these studios to be one of the highest standard studios in the area.

"It will put the Stroud area on the map as a centre for excellence in dance and performing arts.

"It is intended to be a beacon of excellence for aspiring professional dancers to train at."
