PREPARATIONS are ramping up for a number of open days at fire stations across Gloucestershire.
Dursley Fire Station is one of six stations that will open their doors to the public this month.
The free events across the county will allow residents to see the resources at the station and look at the work the firefighters do.
This includes various demonstrations, safety information, and a close look at the crews' equipment and appliances.
The open day at the Dursley station is on Sunday, August 13 from 10.30am to 3.30pm.
Other fire station open dates include:
- Lydney, Saturday August 12, 11am to 2pm
- Cinderford, Saturday, August 12, 10am to 3pm
- Chelt East – Sunday, August 13, 12pm to 4pm
- Tewkesbury – Saturday, August 19, 11am to 4pm
- Glos South and SkillZONE – Sunday, September 3, 11am to 3pm
Adam Openshaw, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, said: “Gloucestershire community fire stations are very much community focused.
“These open days are a great opportunity for our residents to see what we do.
“We look forward to them every year and enjoy talking to our local residents.
“If you’re interested in becoming an on-call firefighter we’d love to speak to you so we hope you will come along to meet us.”
Cllr Dave Norman, cabinet member with responsibility for the Fire and Rescue Service, said: “These open days are a great opportunity to visit your local community fire station to watch some demonstrations and gain some invaluable safety advice.
“I spent 30 fantastic years as an on-call firefighter and would encourage local residents to visit our community station open days to learn more and to enjoy the demonstrations and activities.”
The Glos South and SkillZONE open day includes a planned RTC demonstration, a ALP demonstration as well as a rope rescue demonstration.
Other activities includes, demonstrations from the police, ambulance, SARA as well as a treasure hunt and stalls run by local charities including the Hollie Gazzard Trust and the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.
The Lydney open day includes a planned RTC demonstration as well as a fire/breathing apparatus demonstration.
Other activities include hoop the bottle, crockery smash, a raffle, an Inflatable smoke house and other stalls.
