PLANS have been unveiled to build six new apartments in the car park of a hotel in Dursley.
An outline application has been submitted to Stroud District Council to build six separate one bedroom flats on land behind the Ye Olde Dursley Hotel.
According to council documents, the proposed flats would be self-catering holiday apartments and would increase the hotel’s existing accommodation.
Floor plans show space for a kitchen living room area, one bedroom plus a bathroom with a shower.
The scheme - which was submitted by hotel owner Stavros Antonio - would retain the existing pub garden and 15 car parking spaces for the hotel.
Meanwhile, six car parking spaces would be earmarked for the new apartments with three new EV charging points.
In additon, proposed work includes building a two metre tall boundary fence and a communal garden.
The hotel, which is a 15th century former coaching inn, used to be known as The Old Bell Hotel.
A council document reads: “The application site is, we believe, the only way to access the wider land allocation as the site is landlocked.
“The wider allocation is within various ownership and largely comprises car parking.
“The application site forms part of a car park and is within sole ownership of the applicant, its redevelopment is not reliant on any other landowner.
“It is now proposed to erect self catering apartments that can be offered as part of the applicant’s existing hotel business.
“The proposed use would enhance the vitality of the town by providing accommodation for tourists, travellers for business purposes and walkers.
“The hotel offering will be broadened with a self-catering apartment option as opposed to a room let basis and in their experience and based on enquiries the applicant feels the uptake for this would be strong.
“There would be flexibility to offer additional accommodation with a sofa bed creating a more flexible apartment that would appeal to families.”
