MORE than £6,000 has been raised to help children who have suffered burn injuries.

A summer ball held at Tortworth Court raised £6,250 for the Frenchay After Burns (FAB) Children's Club.

A total of 120 guests supported an auction and raffle to raise almost £2,850 in profits, which was boosted by a surprise donation of £3,400 on the night from the Inner Wheel District 20.

The money will support the charity's work to rebuild the self-confidence of children who have been scarred by domestic fires, explosions, scalds and other injuries.

It will fund places at special camps where they can enjoy archery, climbing and sailing and make new friends.

Caroline James, chairman of FAB, said: "We are sincerely grateful for such a generous donation, and for all of the many auction and raffle prizes which were offered by local businesses.

"We are an independent charity which receives no financial aid from the NHS, so we are entirely dependent on the hard work and commitment of fundraisers in the local community.

"This money will make a huge difference to so many young lives across the South West.

"A burn injury is a truly devastating event in anyone's life, but especially so for a child.

"It can lead to an altered body image, a lack of self-confidence and self-esteem and negative reactions from people around them.

"But by organising activities and camps, these children can realise that they are not alone and can achieve their dreams and aspirations as much as anyone else."

The summer ball was the eighth of its kind to be held in aid of FAB, and included a three-course meal and live music.

Auction prizes included hotel breaks, dinners, spa vouchers, and signed rugby and football shirts.
