A NURSERY in Thornbury has bounced back to receive a good Ofsted rating after being told to improve.

Little Acorns in Gillingstool was previously given the lowest inspection rating of inadequate by inspectors from the education watchdog back in April.

However, the nursery has now received a new and improved rating after receiving good ratings in all four categories - education, behaviour, development and management.

In the recent inspection, the nursery was described as "warm and inviting" where children feel "happy and secure".

Inspectors say the nursery successfully used feedback from the last report to raise the quality of the nursery.

They also praised the nursery, which has 67 children on roll, stating that "staff know the children well".

The nursery, which cares for children aged 0 to 4, is run by national chain JustChildcare, which also has nurseries in Frampton Cotterell, Yate, and Stoke Gifford.

Rose Elkins, regional business manager at Just Childcare, said: "We are extremely proud of the team at Little Acorns for their commitment, dedication, and hard work over the past six months.

"Their efforts have been instrumental in achieving this good rating.

"We are also grateful to have such wonderful families who have supported the team and the nursery throughout this period of growth and improvement.

"Moving forward, we are very excited about the positive direction we are heading.

"We will keep building on this success and remain fully committed to providing the best care for our children."

The new report also praises the nursery for having an "ambitious and well-sequenced curriculum" in place with activities that support children's learning.

However, to improve, inspectors say some staff do not consider how they can offer children more challenges in their learning.

The report reads: "Staff demonstrate a good understanding of the curriculum and how activities are being provided to support children's learning.

"Children take part in and benefit from activities across all areas of learning

"Parents say that they are happy with the nursery and feel that their children are well cared for and receive good support with their development.

"Leaders and staff have a clear vision of what they want children to learn and achieve.

"They provide an ambitious and well-sequenced curriculum to build on children's skills and knowledge, and they focus on what they want children to learn."
