CHILDREN and adults danced and sang and joined in the fun at the Dursley Town Festival.

The week of events reached its peak on Saturday with the carnival day and festival procession.

"It was a really, really good day, there was a great atmosphere and everyone seemed to be having fun," said Jane Manning, organiser of the event.

"We were pleased with how many people turned up and with all the people who got involved and did the displays."

Seven local groups entered the procession competition and the winners, Uley Under 5s Playgroup, were commended for their effort and creativity with children dressed in the theme of 101 Dalmatians.

The weather was gloomy but people continued to have fun into the evening on Saturday with a barn dance, organised by Dursley Lions Club.

"The barn dance was packed with people," added Jane. "As organiser I was really pleased with how the week of events went. We had so much going on and lots of people got involved and had lots of fun."

The Dursley Town Festival committee is looking for more volunteers to help set up the festival for next year. They want anyone who can spare even a short amount of time a month to get involved.

Gazette Youth Awards.

TWO hard working groups of young people were commended for their excellent work in the community.

The Cam and Dursley Youth Forum and the Tri Dz dance group shared first prize in the Gazette Young People's Award at the Dursley Town Festival.

The Youth Forum acts as a voice for young people in the area and helped secure a new location for the Dursley Youth Centre.

The Tri Dz is a group of young people who set up their own dance group and now teach younger children dance in their spare time.

The judges said both groups had shown an outstanding amount of hard work and that they were excellent role models.

The two runners up were Harmony Dance group and three young members of the Peace and Hope Trust, at Dursley Tabernacle Church, who went to Nicaragua, in South America, last year to help street children.
