POLICE in Yate are appealing for witnesses and information after a woman was the victim of a robbery.

The 26-year-old victim was walking along Sundridge Park Road from the direction of Yate Shopping Centre at 1am last Sunday.

At the junction with Gleneagles the victim was approached from behind by an unknown man who grabbed her handbag.

The victim then struggled with the offender and was punched in the face, before the offender made off with the bag.

The bag was later found discarded, minus cash and a pink Sony Ericsson mobile phone which had been stolen.

The suspect was a white man aged in his late 20s, 5ft 10ins tall with a thin build and a long, thin face with stubble.

He was wearing a dark blue hooded top and black jeans and walked off with another male further down the road after the attack.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or might recognise the offender involved.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
