GRITTERS will be out this afternoon and evening as snow is expected to fall in the area.
According to BBC Weather, the white stuff is due to fall at 7pm in Yate and Thornbury.
A Met Office yellow warning of ice has also been issued.
South Gloucestershire Council said in a statement their gritters will be out from 1pm this afternoon, Monday, January 8.
It is understood in some places one to two centimetres could settle over higher ground.
Meanwhile, snow is also expected in Wotton and Berkeley at 7pm.
A SGC statement reads: “Parts of South Gloucestershire are likely to see snow this afternoon - and in some places 1-2cm could settle mostly over higher ground.
“Not quite snowman building conditions but the first snow of 2024!
“In addition, icy surfaces will remain a hazard all evening and into the first part of tomorrow morning.
“Our gritters will be out at 1pm and will remain available all evening to deal with ice hazards.”
However, BBC weather says it not expected to snow in Cam and Dursley.
