POLICE have launched an urgent appeal after a suspicious incident in Berkeley.
A elderly lady in her 90s was left “very shaken” after a group of three men - believed to be rogue traders - visited her home in Hillcrest yesterday afternoon at around 1.30pm.
Police say they believe the men started working on her roof without permission and were stopped after local residents came to the woman’s aid.
PCSO Mike Trebble from Dursley neighbourhood policing team say they are urging anyone with any CCTV footage to get in contact.
In a community alert he said: “Three males with Irish sounding accents visited the property of a lone lady in her early 90's offering to clean her roof.
“She was advised that the normal cost of the work would be £1,600 but if she went ahead there then the cost would be reduced to £500.
“As far as she was aware she said a firm 'No', however, the next thing that she was aware of was hearing loud noises from her roof, the men were up on her roof without permission beginning work.
“Some local residents came to her aid and the males made off.
“The lady was left very shaken by this. If something similar happens to you - please call us straight away.”
