A NEW school in the Thornbury area which is currently under construction is on track to open in September, officials say.
Two Bridges Academy - located next door to Marlwood School - is due to welcome 40 pupils as part of its first intake at the start of the new school year.
Construction is well underway, and when it opens will support children and young people aged two to 19 from nursery to sixth form.
Places will be available for up to 112 pupils, who have severe, profound, or multiple learning difficulties, or severe learning difficulties and autism.
Work started in May last year.
The Alveston academy - which will be run by the Enable Trust - will also have 90 staff.
It is understood the new school is expected to be completed by the middle of August.
The building and grounds will include access to specialist provision including physiotherapy, indoor and outdoor sports facilities with a hydrotherapy pool, and changing facilities.
Luke Hall MP recently visited the site meeting with representatives from the Enable Trust, the Department for Education, the strategic lead for SEND in South Gloucestershire, and the academy’s leadership team.
Mr Hall said: “This has been a real team effort between Enable Trust, ISG Construction, the Department for Education, the council, our local education experts and the academy’s future leadership team, who together have all helped to deliver this exciting new school.
“Many thanks as well go to Marlwood School and CSET for allowing the construction to go so smoothly.
"I am delighted that we are on track to deliver this important facility for South Gloucestershire."
