REFORM UK has announced its candidate to fight for the Thornbury and Yate seat at the next general election.
Andrew Banwell has been selected as the right-wing party’s candidate and says he wants to bring “positive change” to the community.
Mr Banwell - who is also known as Andy - is currently a councillor on Dyrham and Hinton Parish Council.
He previously stood at the local elections for South Gloucestershire Council for the
Boyd Valley ward last May.
The grandfather-of-two works as an IT engineer and has previously worked as a bus and lorry driver.
“I believe in making a difference one step at a time and am dedicated to bringing positive change to our community," he said.
“I am a 60-year-old IT engineer with a diverse background in various roles, from bus and lorry driving to technology.
“Currently, I am actively campaigning for Reform UK and am a potential parliamentary candidate for the Thornbury and Yate area.
“My experience as a parish councillor for Dyrham and Hinton Parish Council has deepened my commitment to community and local issues.
“Outside of my professional life, I am a family man, proud of my two grown-up daughters and three grandchildren.”
In a message for his GoFundMe fundraising campaign, he added: “My campaign is driven by a commitment to bring about meaningful reform and address the pressing issues facing our community.
“From enhancing local infrastructure and public services to championing policies that support economic growth and environmental sustainability, my goal is to be a voice for positive change.
“Together, we can pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.
“Every bit of support brings us closer to our goals and strengthens our community's voice.”
The next general election must be held by January 28, 2025.
Earlier this year, the PM Rishi Sunak said he expected to call in in “the second half” of 2024.
So far, three candidates have been announced for the Thornbury and Yate seat including: Claire Young (Liberal Democrats), Alexandra Jenner-Fust (Green), and Andy Banwell (Reform UK).
They are due to face current MP Luke Hall (Conservative).
