A COUPLE from Wotton are planning to host their first joint arts exhibition.

Lynne and Martin Clarke, both aged 73, are each taking half of the Chipping Hall in Wotton to hold their first joint exhibition, called From Both Sides Now.

The title is inspired by the Joni Mitchell song released in 1969 - the same year that the pair got together at Exeter University.

Lynne is a landscape artist and previously helped run Wotton Art Group for many years

Her display will feature local and Cornish landscapes in oil pastel and watercolour plus some innovative styles.

Meanwhile, Martin, former chairman of Under the Edge Arts, is holding his first exhibition.

His paintings show recent work much of it 'en plein air' featuring earth pigments that he has collected and processed, and which will be exhibited.

Sculptures are mainly small-scale using a variety of materials.

He is a member of the Cotswold Sculptors Association.

Around 80 paintings and 45 sculptures will fill the hall.

Lynne said: “I am so looking forward to showing my new work.

“It has been a huge commitment but well worth it.

“It is the first time we have shown our work together, and we have enough work to fill the hall.”

Martin said: “After a year or two of preparation we are both excited to see this coming together.

“We have such contrasting styles and ideas we hope there will be something for everyone.”

Approximately 20 per cent of all sales will go towards Under the Edge Arts.

A preview event will take place from from 7pm to 9pm on Friday, May 24.

The exhibition will be open between 9am to 9pm on Saturday, May 25 and between 9am to 5pm on Sunday, May 26.

Martin will speak about his sculpture at 3pm on Saturday, there will also be music and poetry from 7pm.
