POLICE have released a warning to neighbours after another spate of rogue trader incidents in Dursley.

An officer from Gloucestershire Police said in a community alert that homes in Kingshill Park have recently been targeted.

They said: “Potential rogue traders and cold callers have been targeting householders in Kingshill Park by posting leaflets through doors asking for antiques and jewellery.

“Leaflets state they will return to collect and pay for any such items, which include sentimental antiques, watches, military regalia and gold and silver jewellery with pictures of multiple items.

“There has been an incident two weeks ago where an individual had numerous items taken without consent and the victim has been given extremely low estimates for those items.

“Past reports of similar sellers have raised issues of pushy selling and low valuations.

“If you are interested in selling items of value, such as military medals, watches or antiques, you should always shop around and speak with local jewellers and antique dealers.

“Never, ever allow uninvited ‘door knocker’ dealers into your house, especially if there are two of them.

“You are immediately placed at a disadvantage and could well become a victim of distraction theft.

“However friendly they may appear, the dealer is out for themselves and you have no reason to fear saying “No”.  You could always phone a friend or say “I’ll think about it.”

“Please help us raise awareness of this scam by informing your elderly or vulnerable relatives, friends and neighbours.”
