A WARNING has been issued about works due to start this week in Frampton on Severn to prevent frequent power cuts in the village.

Power company National Grid says urgent works are due to start today, Tuesday, May 21 at the bottom of The Green by Watery Lane.

It comes following a number of power cuts over the last few months which the power company described as “regrettable”.

Works include replacing a section of underground cable, installing a new extra cable as well as a ground-mounted substation.

Cllr Paul Burnside from Frampton on Severn Parish Council said: “National Grid have confirmed that the section of 11,000 volt cable at the bottom of the Green by Watery Lane urgently needs to be replaced.

“Unfortunately, this work will inevitably cause some disruptions but the parish council would ask people to be patient whilst these essential maintenance works take place.”

A National Grid spokesperson said: “Over recent months there have been a number of faults that have regrettably affected supplies to the village.

“These have been traced to a section of underground cable that we will be replacing, with work starting tomorrow.

“At the same time we will be installing extra cable and a ground-mounted substation.

“Together this will provide more capacity for the area, enabling, for example, customers to connect electric vehicle chargers or heat pumps.

“We have been keeping the community informed via discussions with the parish council.

“At times there will be a need for planned outages, which customers will be notified of in advance.

“This work to improve the local network will take about two months and we will be doing all we can to minimise disruption for customers.”
