CHILDREN and parents from Chipping Sodbury RFC are celebrating after receiving a funding grant.
The rugby club has recently installed several new initiatives to support their youth players, including a calm zone in the clubhouse where children can relax with a variety of mindfulness activities, thanks to a grant provided by councillor Becky Romaine.
Mike Wigmore, chair and under 10s coach at the club said: "Our youth players are the future of the club.
"We have been working closely with Star* Scheme this season to support their mission, to make a material difference in the lives of young people who have multiple adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) or mental health issues.
"This calm zone will provide an important safe space to support our young players.
"We're incredibly grateful to the funding received from councillor Becky Romaine, that has made this possible."
Cllr Becky Romaine, ward councillor for Chipping Sodbury and Cotswold Edge on South Gloucestershire Council, said: “I am absolutely delighted to be able to score a try for Chipping Sodbury rugby club with this donation.
“Local councillors are here to support groups doing fantastic work in the community and the rugby club is one of Chipping Sodbury’s treasures.
"I’m sure the club’s youngsters will find these new initiatives hugely beneficial for years to come.”
Chipping Sodbury RFC are delighted to welcome new and returning players for the 2024-25 season at their registration day on Sunday 1 September from 10am.
