GAZETTE staff back in 1955 would have seen some extraordinary things in their work lives.

This picture was taken and reproduced here with permission from David Ireland's Gazette pictures from the past on Facebook.

There is also a picture of a party of 19 journalists from Southern England and Wales returning home from Le Harve on a P & O ferry in November 1977, when it went to the rescue of a crippled French yacht with 14 crew in a force 10 gale. The ferry crew did an amazing rescue attempt but sadly one of the crew lost his life as a 25 foot waves slashed against the two vessels.

Finally cameraman David Hillier had a birds eye view filming for television Wales & West (HTV) of Transport Minister Ernest Marples on a visit to the Severn Bridge construction site.
