DEPARTING Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall has issued a statement after his election defeat.
Conservative Luke Hall finished in second place receiving 3,014 less votes than elected Liberal Democrat MP Claire Young.
He has now issued a statement to the Gazette saying he is behind Ms Young "every step of the way" and will be "cheering" her on.
"A huge congratulations to Claire Young on becoming the new MP for Thornbury and Yate," Mr Hall said.
"Claire, I will be behind you every step of the way, cheering you on, as you take up the extraordinary privilege of representing our community in Parliament.
"I have always believed that South Gloucestershire is the best place in the country to live, work and raise a family, and I am hugely grateful to have had the opportunity to serve for the past nine years.
"Thank you to everyone who supported me and challenged me along the way.
"The kindness, good humour and community sprit of people across South Gloucestershire was always appreciated more than I can say.
"I am proud of the progress we made together, and will continue to do whatever I can to support our community.
"Whilst I am leaving a role I care deeply about, I am excited to be gaining so much more; time with my wonderful family, and for that, I could not be more grateful.
"See you soon, Luke."
