FIREFIGHTERS rushed to the scene of a large blaze in the Yate area.

Crews tackled the fire at a derelict building in Swan Lane, Winterbourne at around 7.15pm on Friday, July 12. 

Avon Fire & Rescue Service has now confirmed that they believe the fire was started deliberately. 

During the incident, the fire service issued an alert for neighbours to ensure their windows and doors were shut. 

A fire service spokesperson said: “Crews from Temple, Kingswood, Patchway, Yate, Bedminster, Thornbury, Bath and Portishead were mobilised to reports of a fire on Swan Lane, Winterbourne.
 
“Upon arrival, crews located a fire at a derelict building, and used multiple 45mm jets, high pressure hose reels and ten breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.
 
“Crews went back to reinspect the building overnight, to check for any hot spots.
 
“The cause is thought to be deliberate.”
