A NEW play area has opened at a pub in Thornbury after a public appeal was launched.

After many months missing, a new play area has been installed in the pub garden of The Anchor Inn.

Pub landlady Sarah Maude said: “After taking over The Anchor Inn in December 2023 myself and my husband have replaced the old condemned play area with a brand new one.

“The customers had been asking for us to replace it.

“A number of customers said they would love to help and suggested setting up a GoFundMe page.

“Well not thinking it would get much interest to our surprise we or should we say our customers raised over £1,500 towards it.

“We then added an additional £7,300 to make the dream come true.”

The pub hosted a grand opening event on Thursday, July 11 with hot dogs, chips and cupcakes.

Sarah added: “It was an amazing afternoon and everyone had a good time.

“The play area is open everyday from 9am-9pm and we look forward to greeting our existing customers and many new ones.

“We want everyone to know how much we appreciate all the support it means so much.”

The play area features a slide, climbing wall, bridge and climbing netting and is for children aged under 12.
