CHIPPING Sodbury made the most of a break in the weather to thump Charlton Kings by nine wickets to keep the pressure on the top two in WEPL’s Gloucestershire Division.

The visitors from Cheltenham were 141-8 off 32 overs when wet weather first struck, meaning Sodbury were set a revised target of 177 from 32.

And the home side cruised to the points thanks to superb innings from openers Rohan Wijeratne (85 not) and Tom Laver (55) who were quick to punish anything short or wide.

It was a terrific day also for Sodbury 2nds who defeated high-flying Ullenwood Bharat by 35 runs in the Gloucestershire County League.

Adam Febry (69) top scored in a challenge of 258-9 before Lovepreet Singh (3-53) led the response with the ball.

Sodbury 3rds’ trip to Hambrook was washed out after only eight overs while opener Will Mountjoy  cracked 80 off 73 for the 4ths before the rain had the final word against Hanham.

Sodbury 5ths were also defeated by showers, reaching 93-3 against their Rockhampton counterparts at Oldbury before leaving the field for the third and final time.

But there was better luck on Sunday and a memorable friendly at home to Winsley.

The Sodbury side featured three generations of one family lining up together for the first time - club stalwart Steve, son Tom and grandson Ollie.
