A NEW campaign has been launched in an attempt to tackle “illegal” and “inconsiderate” parking in Dursley town centre.
Multiple complaints have been raised by visitors and business owners about bad parking in Parsonage Street.
Dursley Town Council has now begun a campaign in an effort to solve the issue.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 17, a town council spokesperson said vehicles cause obstruction for members of the public with mobility issues.
They also said the vehicles restrict access to businesses and often block window displays.
“We want to highlight to those who regularly park in Parsonage Street, why it is both illegal and inconsiderate to park in this area," the spokesperson said.
“The only parking permitted in Parsonage Street is for the purpose of loading and unloading.
“There is no parking provision for blue badge holders or for any other activity.
“Parked cars in this area impede those with mobility issues, narrow the space available for other traffic, restrict access to businesses and block views of their window displays.”
The issue was previously raised in June where the town council issued an initial warning to drivers.
Some shops are now also displaying posters to support the campaign.
The statement continues: “Please note you are at risk of receiving a Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) by Parking Enforcement Officers who frequently visit Dursley.
“There are free public car parks located in May Lane (long stay), Castle Street (short stay) and Long Street (long stay), which all have marked disabled bays.
“Dursley Town Council are issuing polite notices on parked vehicles and some of the local businesses are displaying posters to support the campaign.
“We would ask all traders/business owners who are parking on Parsonage Street to stop unless you are loading/unloading.”
