A GRANDMA from Charfield is jumping for joy after having a hip replacement.
Sue Bateman, aged 74, had the procedure at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Emersons Green.
Ten months on from her operation, Sue - who has 16 grandchildren - says the procedure has given her back her life as she has never felt in such good shape.
Sue - who runs a swimming pool business with her husband Rob - said: “Before I had my hip operation, I used to pop pills before walking the dogs.
“I was in a lot of pain, but determined not to have a hip replacement as I was worried about the impact it might have on me and the family and concerned about the recovery.
“As the pain started to increase, my family ganged up on me and urged me to do something about my hip.
“They could see it was really affecting me day to day and advised me to use my Aviva health insurance for the op.
“I was referred to Wellsoon from Practice Plus Hospital Emersons Green by my insurance company.
Sue added: “From making the initial enquiry it was all so quick, I didn’t have time to worry at all. I met with a super consultant, Mr Nemes, who was such a lovely man and put me at ease straight away.
“I had the operation on a Saturday at 5pm and was home 24 hours later, where my husband Rob, took care of me and was devoted to my recovery for the full six weeks.
“Gradually I went back to work for the business in a gentle capacity and built up my walking from 5 minutes at a time to longer walks with the dogs and Rob.
“I took it steady and built-up muscle strength with Pilates and yoga.
"I have found I am more flexible now and have my confidence back – I just wish I’d had the courage to do it sooner.”
Husband Rob said: “I feel it’s a total miracle – we couldn’t be happier.
“Sue diligently did her post-operation exercises everyday using the recovery information and video provided by Wellsoon.
“Her recovery has been a complete success.
“Sue is in her 70s but she’s getting about like she’s 17 and can get about with the grandchildren more as we love to have them over!
“We are overjoyed by the impact the new hip has had on both of our lives.
“We are able to walk our dogs, keep up with the grandkids and fully enjoy our wonderful meadow at home.”
