CHIPPING Sodbury made club history by fielding six Saturday sides for the first time in their 164 years.
An increase in playing numbers - a combination of juniors stepping up to senior cricket for the first time and the arrival of new members - made the feat possible.
The first team lost by four wickets away to Frocester, despite 68 from opener Tom Laver and Jamie Wakefield’s 58.
But there was a fine 79-run home win for the 2nds against Dymock, Mason Poole finishing with fine figures of 4-6 from six and Damien Bouwer capturing 3-20.
Sodbury 3rds trumped Bohemians by 104 runs, David Wootton (57) and Ronnie Freeman (49) top scoring but the 4ths lost by 29 runs away to Hambrook, Jay Penfold taking 4-26 and hitting 44.
The 5ths succumbed by 91 runs away to Bishopston, but the 6ths rose to the occasion with a 102-run win away to Heath 4ths at Westerleigh, Jamie Pearson top scoring on 53.
Sodbury’s first XI hope to get back on winning form on Saturday away to Langford while the 2nds host Gloucester AIW and the 3rds entertain Coalpit Heath 2nds with the 5ths taking on Blagdon at Grittleton.
Sodbury, meanwhile, are preparing to face a Gloucestershire XI in a testimonial match for Chris Dent on Sunday August 11 (2pm).
Internationals Cameron Bancroft (Australia) and James Bracey (England) along with county white ball captain Jack Taylor are the first star names to be announced to face Sodbury.
Admission to the match is free.
