PLANS have been put forward to open a new takeaway in Dursley.
A change of use application was recently submitted to Stroud District Council to open the eatery in Kingshill Road, located next door to the new Domino’s which opened last summer.
The application was put forward by applicant SP Catering Ltd to officially change the site from a retail unit (class E) to a food takeaway (sui generis) on Thursday, July 11.
The scheme also includes plans to install new extraction and ventilation equipment plus minor external alterations.
The applicant says, if approved, the new takeaway would generate greater footfall and trade for Kingshill Road and would also remove a “dead frontage”.
It is understood the takeaway would operate similar hours to the nearby Domino’s which is currently open between 11am to 11pm every day.
The proposed site used to be the former Motor World building, which ceased trading in 2022.
The old auto parts store used to sell a variety of motoring, car parts and accessories as well as bicycles and cycle accessories.
A planning document reads: “The hot food takeaway will operate similar opening hours to others located within the Kingshill Centre, generating a number of jobs to be recruited from the local area.
“No seating will be provided on the premises and it will exclusively operate a collection and
delivery service.”
It continues: “The introduction of the proposed use would further support the vitality and viability of the area by reinstating an active use in its remaining vacant unit, removing a dead frontage and generating greater footfall and trade for both the day and evening economy making the parade along Kingshill Road an attractive place to visit and trade from.”
The Kingshill Road already has many takeaways including Dominos, Chinese takeaway Kings Garden, kebab shop Kingshill Takeaway, fish and chips shop The Great British.
