THE OWNERS of a business in Thornbury have spoken out after masked thieves ransacked its shop during a raid.

A group of offenders targeted the Thornbury Motors's Spar store in Grovesend Road at around 12.15am on Wednesday, August 7.

Avon and Somerset Police say at least four people stole cigarettes, set off a fire extinguisher as well as smashing windows and bottles of alcohol.

Officers believe the thieves left the scene in a dark-coloured car.

Thornbury Motors have now issued a statement on social media thanking the community for its support.

The statement reads: “As some of you may have heard, we unfortunately had a break in our Spar shop.

“Much of the shop was left with a large amount of damage, including smashed alcohol and fire extinguishers being set off.

“We do know that there were four masked males who left in a car with one of the extinguishers following the break-in, which was found down the road.

“Please if anyone has any information, get in touch - anything may help!”

The statement issued by Thornbury Motors continues: “We want to say a massive thank you to all that have helped in the clean up effort and are immensely grateful for all the continued support.

“Given everything going on currently, it is important to remember kindness costs nothing.

“We are now back open for both petrol and shop purchases!”

A police spokesperson said: “Several people called 999 at about 12.15am today, Wednesday, August 7, reporting the burglary.

“Officers attended just over 10 minutes later and found the door smashed.

“The thieves damaged fittings, smashed bottles of alcohol and set off a fire extinguisher as well as taking cigarettes.

“Up to four people wearing dark clothing were reportedly involved, and they made off in a dark-coloured car.”
