PLANS have been revealed to transform a prominent roadside car dealership in the area.

A planning application has been put forward to install new signage at the Hilltop Garage located on the A38 in Eastington.

According to the application, local garden machinery business Hawkins Machinery And Horticulture is planning to open at the site.

Proposals - which were submitted by TW Hawkins & Sons - include erecting new security shutters, a two metre fence and gates plus replacement signage.

Other plans include installing two outdoor canopies for an outdoor display area for machinery.

It is understood ten new jobs could be created if plans are approved.

The application states the business would be open from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 1pm on Saturday’s.

However, the applicant states the site’s existing car wash will be “unchanged”.

A planning document reads: “The premises will be used by a garden machinery company who have outgrown their existing premises near Dursley.

“Their existing building is up for sale, with the company relocating its operation to the site.

“The proposal will allow the business to expand with the potential for new job creation.

“The proposal would not cause an unacceptable visual impact on the local character regarding its siting, scale, materials or site coverage.

“The proposed signage would be similar to the existing sign boards and, therefore, would not cause visual harm.

“The proposed fencing is required to create a secure sales compound so ride-on mowers and other equipment can be displayed with shelter provided by the two canopies.

“The fencing will provide visibility of the goods for sale and security for the company.

“The fencing will be set back from the road and read in conjunction with wider street furniture and existing buildings so it will not look out of place.

“The proposal would not generate significant traffic movements with the amount of traffic likely to be the same or lower than from the existing car sales use.”

The application was submitted to SDC on Thursday, August 1.
