A YATE WAR hero was honoured recently on his 100th birthday.
Monday, August 19 2024 marked a momentous occasion in Yate as mayor councillor Ben Nutland, visited local war hero, Leonard Trewin, to honour him on his 100th birthday.
Mr. Trewin, a former member of the parachute regiment who served his country during World War Two, was presented with a bouquet of flowers from the mayor, who extended warm wishes on behalf of the town.
The mayor expressed the town's gratitude for Mr. Trewin's service and inquired about the secret to his longevity.
With a twinkle in his eye, Mr. Trewin revealed, "A glass of red wine!"
His response was met with smiles and laughter from all in attendance.
Mr Nutland said: "It is a privilege to celebrate such a significant milestone with Mr. Trewin.
"It’s not every day you get to meet a war hero. "
"The people of Yate are proud to honour him today and always."
Leonard Trewin has been a beloved figure in Yate for many years, known for his unwavering spirit and the contributions he has made to the community both during and after his military service.
Leonard was recognised not only because of his extraordinary age but also because of the life of service and dedication he has led.
The celebration marks a special chapter in the life of Mr. Trewin, surrounded by friends, family, and a grateful community that cherishes his presence and legacy.
