Father who threw missiles at police jailed

Meanwhile, a single father was jailed for throwing missiles at police during the same far right demo in Bristol.

Craig Timbrell, aged 38, of Hartcliffe, Bristol, was jailed for two-and-a-half years during a hearing at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday August 20.

The court heard Timbrell had attended the demonstration in Bristol city centre on Saturday, August 3 following the stabbings in Southport days earlier.

Meabh McGee, prosecuting, said Timbrell was filmed throwing objects at the police during clashes near the Mercure Hotel in the Redcliffe area of the city.

Timbrell was identified by members of the public after his image was circulated on social media and he handed himself into the police.

At a previous hearing, Timbrell pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

Emily Evans, defending, said Timbrell had been planning on attending a ticketed social event in the city centre with friends, but was unable to gain entry and instead “came across” the protest.

“He fully accepts he ended up becoming embroiled within that,” she said.

“He couldn’t really explain it (why he threw missiles at the police) other than to say his mental health was at a decline at that point in time.”
