A POPULAR village event near Wotton made a welcome return despite weather challenges.
Kingswood’s annual show day took place on September 7 with a dog show, 30 craft and games stands and various live performances.
However, the event’s classic car show was cancelled, as according to organisers, the ground was ‘too soft’ to accommodate 170 expected cars.
Other attractions included a bar, BBQ, and an ice cream van.
There were also performances from alt-country band the Roseleys and New Generation dancers and Jolly Melodies entertained children in the marquee.
Meanwhile, the event’s dog show proved to be as popular as ever with 66 entries spread across five classes.
Yoshi, who had previously prevailed in the fabulous fella class, also took home the coveted best in show award.
Inside the village hall, the WI Teas were busy all afternoon.
There were also record entries to the produce and handicraft show this year
Entries were displayed across 24 tables alongside pictures made by children from the village’s playgroup and Kingswood Primary.
The 2024 winners of the annual cups and prizes were:
- Purvis challenge Cup (flowers) Thelma Iles
- Edgeveg trophy (fruit and veg) Julie Devine
- Village association cup (food/drink) Sarah & Tad Gunton
- KVA arts and handicraft cup (creative) Betty Hebditch

- Alexander Showday trophy (11-16 years) Alexander Kirk

The event was organised by volunteers from the Kingswood Village Association.
Speaking after the event, association chair Guy Lendon, said: “After having taken the difficult decision to cancel the classic car show due to the excessive rainfall in the days preceding show day, we were very pleased that the rain stayed away for the day itself.
“The residents of Kingswood came out in force to support us in our fundraising efforts.
“We really are fortunate to live in such a supportive community.”
