IT has been announced Thornbury swimming pool will be closed for almost two months.
The pool at Thornbury Leisure Centre will temporarily close for essential and ‘unavoidable’ maintenance works, say officials.
It will be shut from Monday, November 4 and will eventually reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
The Circadian Trust - which runs the Thornbury centre - says the works are part of a £600,000 refurbishment across their pools in South Gloucestershire.
During the works swimmers are being asked to use nearby pools at the leisure centres in Bradley Stoke and Yate.
A notice on Thornbury Leisure Centre’s website reads: “We understand that the temporary closure of our pools is inconvenient to our customers but we really hope you will like the end result when you return to the pool in January!
“This project is unavoidable and has been a big decision.
“We’re acting now for the immediate future and long-term provision of swimming in Thornbury, so we very much appreciate your support.
It continues: “We are working with South Gloucestershire Council to deliver a £600,000 refurbishment which will not only extend the lifespan of our swimming pools, but will also bring environmental improvements in energy efficiency, and a fresh new look to the pool area.
“Thank you for your understanding and support with this project.”
