A MAN from the Yate area has been jailed after throwing objects at police officers in a violent protest last month.
Wayne Murray, aged 57, of Bradstone Road, Winterbourne, was also seen aggressively shouting at officers during the Bristol disorder on Saturday, August 3.
Demonstrations took place across the UK after three young girls were killed at a Southport dance studio on 29 July.
He pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Bristol Crown Court earlier this month and was sentenced earlier today, Tuesday, September 24.
Murray has been jailed for 26 months - 2 years and one month.
The court heard Murray "was at the centre of the violent mob" and that his involvement "fuelled" the violence.
Avon and Somerset Police say Murray is the 24th person to be sentenced following the violence in Bristol.
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Herbert said: "Murray's behaviour that day was completely shameful and he has now received a lengthy prison sentence as a result.
"Two-dozen people have now been sentenced for their involvement on that day and we continue to work to identify and arrest others involved."
