A PLAN has been unveiled establishing long-term goals and a vision for Thornbury’s future.

A new capital strategy was officially approved at a full Thornbury Town Council meeting on Tuesday, September 10.

The plan will drive planning, budgeting, resource allocation and service delivery by the town council over the next decade.

Some of the projects highlighted include redeveloping the skatepark, refurbishing Thornbury Chapel plus creating a new pump track and running track.

Other ideas include changes to the water play area at Mundy Playing Fields, building a new multi-use games area and some improvements to staff facilities.

Officials say at the heart of the plan is addressing the climate emergency.

Thornbury mayor James Murray said: “Having worked hard on this project over the last couple of years, I am really excited to finalise our capital strategy.

“The strategy includes much-needed facilities which will benefit all the residents of our growing town.

“I am particularly excited to see plans for new youth focused facilities such as the MUGA , refurbished skate park, pump track, and much needed changes to our water play area at Mundy Playing Fields.

“Sport fans in the community will also benefit from a 4G pitch and cinder running track alongside improved facilities at both the Chantry Playing Field & the Mundy Playing Fields.

“Thanks go to my fellow councillors and all the office team for their hard work and input to this strategy.”

The town council said the plan was shaped using surveys and stakeholder feedback.

It is understood funding for projects will come from various sources including grants, community infrastructure levy, capital reserves and potential public works loans.
