THERE were 28 Yate goals and the first match for the men’s 3rd team in nine years, in a very successful Saturday for Yate hockey club.
In a day of pre-league friendlies, a well prepared Yate Ladies 3s team got things off to a great start with an early match at Chippenham 4.
Yate started strongly with an early goal from a penalty corner straight strike by Alexandra Bessex.
Another goal from Yate came when Marlize Wood slotted the ball into the net.
Chippenham then managed to score before Yate’s third goal which was a really well worked team effort with Sharron Bates passing to Angela Turner, who in turn passed the ball to Bessex to score.
Yate were in control of the match from then on with more goals from Jeanette Seaville, Turner and Bessex secured her hatrick with the final score being 6-1.
The player of the match went to Sarah Willis and the game saw strong defensive performances from Carly Bryan and goalkeeper Nikki Ashley.
The home action at YOSC began with the relaunch of Yate Men’s 3s, against a very competitive Wotton-Under-Edge 5 team.
The team gelled well in this first game and the result could easily have gone in Yate’s favour, but, having been 3-1 down, the Yate side were satisfied with a 3-3 draw.
Captain Paul Anderson said: “It was a privilege to captain the team and I’m proud of how young and old players supported each other throughout.”
Yate’s goals were scored by Will Davies and George Tucker.
A special mention goes to Adrian Chambers for coming out of retirement to help encourage and guide the younger players
The ladies 1s were next on and hosted the University of Bristol 2s.
Holly Davies gave Yate the lead after 10 minutes with her penalty corner strike and Kelly Bowden made some excellent saves to keep Yate 1-0 up at half time.
The home team held firm and eventually Chloe W poached the ball and fed through to Jess Brain to finish.
Within 10 minutes Yate were 3-0 up, when Zoe Vale slotted home at a penalty corner and after another ten Katie Browne won the ball and attached the D, passing to new Yate player Darcy Sullivan who slotted the ball home under the keeper for the 4-0 win.
The Men’s 1st team emerged victorious against Wotton 2s with a convincing 7-2 win.
Yate Men’s 2s travelled to Wotton 4s and enjoyed a 5-1 win.
Steve Mason, Sam Patton, Luis, Martin Morrissey and Mike Chaney were on the scoresheet for Yate.
There was also the first outing for Yate ladies 4s who beat Chippenham 5s 3-2.
There were player of the match votes for Jess VW, Heidi B, Saoirse MacDonald, Guttridge, with the most votes going to Windsor.
