PLANS to transform a prominent roadside car dealership in the area have moved a step closer.
Proposals to install new signs at Hilltop Garage on the A38 in Eastington were submitted in a planning application to Stroud District Council back in August.
Local machinery business Hawkins Machinery And Horticulture is planning to open at the Claypits site.
Plans - which were submitted by Hawkins - include erecting new security shutters, a two metre fence and gates plus replacement signage.
Two outdoor canopies would also be installed for an outdoor machinery display area.
The application was officially approved by SDC on September 13.
It is believed ten new jobs will be created.
The application states the business would be open from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 1pm on Saturday’s.
However, the site’s existing car wash will be “unchanged”.
A planning document reads: “The proposal consists of non-illuminated acrylic based replacement signage that would simply replace wording.
“Overall, the proposal is considered to be well designed and respectful of its surroundings.”
“The proposed signage is proportionate to the scale of the building, and the design is simple
and uncluttered.
“Although the signage would be viewable from a classified road, it is non illuminated.
“Gloucestershire Highways were also consulted, to which they had no objections.
“Therefore, the proposal has been carefully assessed and due to the height, size and non-illumination it would not result in any harm to public safety.
“In light of the above, the proposal complies with the policies outlined; and therefore is
recommended for consent.”

It is understood that property agency Bruton Knowles is currently marketing the site for rent.
In a notice, they say the site has been continuously operating since the 1920's.
According to road traffic statistics in 2022, the property has an average daily passing traffic of 15,051 vehicles.
